Join Barbara Jensen, author of "Reading Classes: On Culture and Classism in America," for a discussion about class through music, reading and dialogue. Class and Classism are often influential but rarely talked about forces in American culture. Barbara, a long-time neighborhood resident and activist, will reflect on her dual citizenship in the working class and middle class, sharing personal experiences that shaped her understanding and inviting the audience to do the same. As usual, this event will be followed by ping-pong and karaoke.

Barbara makes her first personal appearance in Minnesota since her new book
Reading Classes - On Culture and Classism in America has become available for purchase.

She has been examining and teaching about working class cultures for over thirty years as a university instructor, an eloquent and moving speaker, and as leader of dozens of workshops on a variety of aspects of working class life, cultures, and psychology. A founding mother of the Working Class Studies Association, and currently its president, Barbara has been instrumental in building the field of working class studies in the United States.

“Class is an injustice that says some Americans deserve more time, leisure, control, and far more financial reward, than others. Classism is the set of myths that keep those class divisions in place.”

Please join Barbara on this important Saturday before the national election to hear passages from her book and also some topical music.
As you will see...

an evening with Barbara is a delightful experience!
